NASS Recognizes National Voter Registration Day 2024

For Immediate Release
September 17, 2024

Washington, D.C. – In collaboration with members of the elections community, the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) recognizes and celebrates September 17, 2024, as National Voter Registration Day (NVRD). This nonpartisan effort encourages eligible citizens across the country to check their voter registration status, register to vote, and become more aware of the overall election process.

The NVRD Steering Committee is led by NASS President and Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon and NASS Elections Committee Co-Chair and Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams. Both members are the Chief Election Official for their respective states.

“As Minnesota’s Chief Election Official and a registered voter, I cannot emphasize enough the immense importance of voter registration and election participation,” stated Simon. “Whether you’re 18 or 88, you as an American can help decide our country’s leaders. If you’re not registered to vote but you’re eligible, register today, and if you’re already registered, make sure your information is up to date. It only takes a few minutes, and taking care of it now will help ensure you don’t run into any issues come Election Day.”

“It is fitting that this year National Voter Registration Day falls on Constitution Day,” said Adams. “As we celebrate our system of self-government and our constitutional rights, let’s further sustain them by prompting voter registration and participation in our national conversation.”

As an NVRD election official partner, NASS’s resolution in support of the day can be found here.

The hashtag #VoteReady will be used on social media by election officials and NVRD partners in support of the day and throughout September, as well as #TrustedInfo2024 to highlight state and local election officials as the trusted sources for election information.

Voter registration requirements and deadlines vary by state. Visit NASS’s nonpartisan website CanIVote.org to locate accurate, state specific information.
