NASS Statement on July 13 Assassination Attempt

Washington, D.C. — The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) led by its President Steve Simon, Minnesota Secretary of State, and President-elect Michael Watson, Mississippi Sec­retary of State, would like to address the July 13 assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald J. Trump in Pennsylvania:

“NASS has long condemned threats towards election officials and workers, and stands again to­day to denounce the attempt on the former President’s life during his campaign event and pray for the victims impacted during this tragedy. We also would like to thank the U.S. Secret Service and law enforcement for their swift action.

“As guardians of democracy and champions of civility, Secretaries of State stand against political violence in all forms. No one should ever fear for their safety, especially when participating in the electoral process. We want to assure you we are strongly committed to the security of all elections workers and voters in the upcoming general election.”
