NASS Celebrates National Voter Registration Day
For Immediate Release – Sept. 20, 2022 – Washington, D.C. – The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) is once again pleased to collaborate with members and those throughout the elections community in celebrating September 20, 2022, as National Voter Registration Day (NVRD).
“It’s so important to encourage eligible citizens to register and exercise their right to vote in our nation’s elections,” said Tahesha Way, NASS President and New Jersey Secretary of State. “I’m excited about how NASS and our members have promoted September as National Voter Registration Month, and I know many of us look forward to today, National Voter Registration Day, as an energizing, collaborative event to encourage Americans to get registered or check their registration status.”
As an “election official partner” organization, NASS has a resolution in honor of the occasion.
NASS members and state Chief Election Officials, Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams and Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon both serve on NVRD’s Steering Committee, guiding the day in a bipartisan fashion.
“Voter registration has begun to pick up after flatlining during the pandemic, but more work needs to be done,” said Secretary Adams. “I am optimistic that this upcoming National Voter Registration Day will register thousands of new voters and help make their voices heard in November.”
“The optimism at the center of our American democracy is a simple yet powerful promise: your voice counts,” said Secretary Simon. “National Voter Registration Day is the perfect time to express that optimism and celebrate the right to vote. Get registered and encourage family and friends ahead of Election Day in 2022.”
The hashtag #VoteReady will be used on social media by election officials and NVRD partners to acknowledge NVRD efforts.
As a note, voter registration requirements and deadlines vary by state. Visit NASS’s CanIVote.org, a nonpartisan website created by state officials, for more information on how to register to vote in your state.
