NASS 2022 Virtual Winter Conference Highlights

For Immediate Release — March 7, 2022 — Washington, D.C. — The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) held a Virtual Winter Conference February 28 - March 2, 2022. A bipartisan group of 34 Secretaries of State and Lieutenant Governors, along with nearly 300 senior state government staff, federal, nonprofit and private sector representatives attended the online sessions.

On March 1, NASS was pleased to have the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas join the conference to deliver remarks on the department’s ongoing commitment to supporting election cybersecurity and infrastructure. Also during the session, NASS President-elect and New Jersey Secretary of State Tahesha Way was able to discuss relevant issues facing Chief Election Officials with Mayorkas. National Awards -

IDEAS Award Finalists –
The three finalists for the NASS IDEAS Award recognizing innovation and excellence in state programming were announced:

Colorado - Rapid Response Election Security Cyber Unit (RESCU)
*Iowa - The Voting Accessibility Quick Check Guide
*Louisiana - Operation Geaux Vote

Representatives for each of the finalists will be invited to showcase their state’s program during the up­coming NASS 2022 Summer Conference. NASS members will select the national honoree from among the finalists and the recipient office will be presented with the award during the conference.

NASS John Lewis Youth Leadership Award – This award aims to honor the impact of the extraordi­nary accomplishments of Congressman John Lewis that have inspired America’s young leaders to do great things for their communities. View a video highlighting the 2021 recipients from across the coun­try

Announcements - The 2022 NASS Summer Conference, hosted by Louisiana Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin, is currently planned to take place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana July 7-10.
