Governor Ivey Calls for Special Election for House District 63

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monday, August 2, 2021 – MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey has called for a special election for House District 63, following the appointment of former State Representative Bill Poole (R-Tuscaloosa) as the Director of Finance. His resignation was effective July 31, 2021.

The Special Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

Interested candidates will have until Tuesday, August 17, 2021 to qualify with a major political party and declare their candidacy. Independent candidates and minor parties must submit the appropriate number of petition signatures to the Office of the Secretary of State no later than Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

If necessary, a Special Primary Runoff Election will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.

The Special General Election will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

For the Special Primary Election, the deadline to register to vote is Monday, October 4, 2021. Eligible Alabamians can register to vote online at AlabamaVotes.gov, on the mobile app “Vote for Alabama” or by visiting their local Board of Registrars’ office.
