NASS Statement Addressing Suggestion of General Election Delay

For Immediate Release – July 30, 2020 – WASHINGTON, D.C. – The members of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) call on Congress to continue to support the United States Code, which establishes that federal elections are to be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

Please know, the 40 Secretaries of State serving as their respective state's Chief Election Official remain committed to the security and accuracy of election results, while also maintaining the integrity of each state's unique election processes.

State and local election officials around the country are working diligently to ensure citizens are able to vote in a safe and secure manner. While 2020 presents unique challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic, election officials and other state leaders are taking steps to mitigate these through a variety of measures, including recruiting additional poll workers, securing alternate polling locations, providing personal protective equipment (PPE) and expanding voting options.

For questions about elections, how to become a poll worker, or to report cases of election impropriety please contact your state or local election official directly. You can find an election official directory on
canivote.org, a helpful nonpartisan website created by state election officials. Also, learn more about NASS’s #TrustedInfo2020 effort to highlight state and local election officials as trusted sources of election information.”
